The Step-by-Step process for setting up BPUB utilities for your new commercial construction project will guide you through the essential steps to ensure your service connection runs smoothly. Throughout the process, BPUB will provide support to ensure a successful setup of utilities for your project.

Understanding Your Location Within Our Service Boundaries

Request an Initial Discussion with the BPUB Business Development Department

Please submit your request with the Site Plan to businessdevelopment@brownsville-pub.com for review
Business Development Department will review your project with the Electric and Water/Wastewater Engineering Departments, then explain any steps required to provide BPUB services to your location
BPUB will work with you to determine temporary service designs, permanent infrastructure routing, and required easements needed for your project

Submit the Required Documentation

Submit the required documentation to begin the process of requesting utility connections:

Engineering Design Review

BPUB Engineering Departments will design your service infrastructure and send you a design to review.

Once the review is complete and approval is sent back to BPUB Engineering, a Contribution in Aid of Construction (CIAC) Letter will be drafted detailing the payment required for this connection
This will also initiate the Easement process based on the electrical and water/wastewater design

Site Preparation and Inspections

Once the construction invoice is paid, ensure the site is prepared for installation, and all required City of Brownsville inspections have been completed.

COB Permits & Inspections
- Please note that all permits and inspections required by the City of Brownsville must be completed and released to BPUB before the electric meter is set

Site Preparedness:

Ensure all infrastructure is complete and complies with BPUB Service Standards
Conduits and cables on the secondary side of the meter are installed
Survey and complete required staking
The project address should be posted
All infrastructure installation areas should be within 6 inches of the final grade
Ensure Utility Easements are cleared of debris and accessible to BPUB construction crews
